1 review for F1 Daisy – Talk and Text

  1. Richard S. (verified owner)

This is an extraordinary phone for the person who wants to use a phone as a phone, and as a device with which to Send and receive text Messages, while at the same time carrying a camera, timepiece and flashlight. I had no interest in a smart phone into which I could download apps and in effect turn it into a pocket-sized computer, so I can destroy my eyesight, and fritter away my time with social media, video, blogs, and games on a small screen while waiting somewhere to participate in some real activity. But I did want the ability to text, using my voice only, with my grandchildren, call or text my wife or a friend if there was something important to share at the time, take a photograph if I saw something photograph worthy, or receive a verification code from the many services now using two-step verification. And because I was going to be an infrequent user, I did not want to be bound to a contract; I wanted to use the cheapest limited minutes monthly plan I could find. The Daisy, and a 30 minute per month plan from TracFone seemed like it would be the perfect answer. And it was. It did everything I wanted, including the clearest voice to text capability that I have encountered on any device. And I tried to use it as it as I intended for over three months, and for those purposes it worked perfectly. But I have a degenerative neuromuscular condition that has taken so much strength from my hands and fingers that it was too difficult for me to open and close the flip cover and hold the phone in my hand while using it. I could not use it unless someone else was home to help me open close it, and use its functions. Although Sunbeam has a 30 day return policy, when I explained the reason for my difficulty in using it, they immediately agreed to a full refund (minus the restocking fee), notwithstanding that I had the phone for over three months from when I received it. I cannot conceive, in this day and age, of another company doing that. It is a small company and, for all service and technical questions, you deal directly with its owners or key executives (on a real first name basis) when you telephone or email. No useless helpdesks, no demanding to speak with supervisors, no endless menus and waiting on hold while a robot tells you to look at an FAQ that you already know does not solve your problem; it’s real people providing real, customer focused, service. And finally, I want to note that In addition to someone like myself, whose intended use of a smart phone was as antediluvian as was mine, this is also the perfect phone to start out a youngster with whom you want to be able to be in contact when they were away from a landline, but who you did not want to give the capability to become addicted to games or social media.
